Description

ScarfStole "Vienna

The hand-felted SilkScarfStole by austriandesign.at is felted from silk with merino wool in pure handwork, whereby the craftsmanship know-how makes a modern interpretation of felting with its unique character possible and unique. Each piece is unique!

Characteristics of the "Vienna" scarf stole are its unusual shape: stepped, graduated scarf ends, but also the special, iridescent silk and the unique textile processing, i.e. the hand felting of the precisely narrow, two-coloured wool edges. The wool edges are pre-felted in the fleece and felted by hand in strips onto the silk and into the silk, on both sides of the shawl stole. The felted edge gives the silk a body without losing the lightness of the swinging silk and is equally beautiful on the front and back, making the models reversible to wear. The two-tone edges make this unique accessory a brilliant colour match for your wardrobe. The scarfStola, as the name suggests, can be worn as a scarf and as a stole in many ways. Depending on the occasion - elegant as a stole, sportily knotted, classically draped - always a suitable, individual accessory. Pure handwork "Made in Vienna".

Care tips

Hand wash

Silk and merino wool should always be washed at warm, maximum 30°. Use only liquid silk detergent and no fabric softeners.

Silk should always be washed in a large vessel (sink, bathtub) with running water. Put the unfolded silk piece in and move it back and forth in the lye - do not rub, knead or wring it. If you do not use enough water or do not constantly move the silk, the rinsed out colour pigments will reattach to the silk and thus discolour. This discolouration cannot be reversed.

Then rinse the silk piece under running water or change the water until no more detergent residue runs off.

Do not leave the silk fabric in the washing water in the hope that this will soften the soiling: As the soiling "softens", the silk fibre will open up and work the soiling deeper into the fabric. If you see that it does not get better with silk detergent, you should seek dry cleaning.

Drying & Ironing

To dry silk, it is best to squeeze it out in a soft towel -. never wring out! When damp, the fibre is all the more sensitive to shifting of the warp and weft threads. The "lighter" (i.e. the thinner and airier) the silk fabric is, the more the threads can shift. This process is usually irreparable.

Iron silk while still damp at low heat. If the silk fabric is already too dry, they need more moisture or more heat. Beware of too high temperatures. Steam irons give good results. Avoid spraying water directly onto the silk fabric: with dyed silk, unsightly water stains may appear which you will not be able to remove even if you wash the fabric again. Do not leave the iron on the same spot for too long: silk consists mainly of protein and can burn.

How do I remove stains from my silk fabric?

Hand wash in cold or lukewarm water with silk detergent. We recommend dry cleaning for stains. It is better not to use home remedies, as most home remedies do not apply to silk.

The care of silk

If you follow these few points, you will enjoy your pure silk item for a long time.

  • Never spray the silk with perfume or deodorant.
  • Never wash with bleach.
  • Do not expose silk directly to strong sunlight for a long time.
  • Do not sprinkle with water when ironing.
  • Do not remove individual stains with water.
  • Always iron silk from the reverse side.

About silk

Silk

Although silk is no longer a luxury good, it is still one of the most precious materials in the textile industry. It is not only its noble image that makes silk so successful: above all, it is unsurpassed as a cooling summer fabric that is gentle on the skin and should be treated with care.

Silk has great properties

Silk is extremely tear-resistant and temperature-regulating. Above all, its cooling effect makes it a sought-after material for clothing and accessories in the summertime. This cooling effect is due to the low thermal conductivity of the silk thread, which hardly releases any heat from the outside to the skin. Thanks to tiny holes, which also help the silkworm inside its cocoon to "balance the temperature", heat and moisture are also transported away and the body is given an even microclimate. Silk absorbs up to 30 percent of its own weight in moisture, dries quickly and hardly creases. Thanks to its low density, it is light and cuddly, yet its robustness is surprising, which it owes to the enormous tensile strength of the silk thread.

Silk is:

  • noble
  • comfortable to wear
  • cooling
  • naturally allergy friendly
  • crease-free
  • easy
  • enormously tear resistant
  • quick-drying

Things to know about the luxury fabric

A silkworm caterpillar eats around 240 kilograms of mulberry leaves in the course of its life to spin the precious silk thread. After pupation, its cocoon remains on the tree - and can be picked and processed further. A single cocoon thread can be no less than 3000 to 4000 metres long, yet it takes about ten times its weight in mulberry moth cocoons to produce raw silk. Their origin and processing explain why natural silk remains one of the most expensive fabrics in the world. Only about 1% of the fibres produced worldwide are silk fibres. India, China, Thailand, Japan and Brazil are the biggest exporters today.

About the collection

austriandesign.at by Karin Merkl. Slow Fashion Made in Austria since 2006.

The preferred theme of austriandesign.at is the scarf. It is a play with the form, but also with the function of a scarf. The scarf, in its basic form a rectangle, is modified and interpreted in such a way that it also becomes clothing for ladies.

Traditional design principles are questioned, redefined and implemented in a modern way. Quality, functionality, originality, aesthetics and sustainability at a high level are the requirement criteria for all models by austriandesign.at.

The "hand felted scarves" from austriandesign.at are felted from silk with merino wool in pure handwork, whereby the craftsmanship know-how makes a modern interpretation of the old Japanese technique of felting with its unique character possible and unique.

austriandesign.at creates fashionable accessories of high quality with the "hand-felted scarves" line, using old handicraft techniques and implementing them in a contemporary way. Each piece is a UNICAT!
