Is online shopping always evil?
During the lockdown, shopping from the couch also became an option for those people who had previously refused to do so.
Does buying with a click have a negative impact on the climate?
In addition, the research results of Wolfgang Stölzle/Logistics Management at the University of St. Gallen Switzerland:
Shopping in a shop can be more harmful than shopping online. Namely, when long distances to the shop are covered by car, whereby their form of propulsion is essential and must definitely be taken into account. Logistics companies are optimising their routes, and in the future the last leg of the delivery will be made by picking up the parcel at a parcel station or by dropping it off using a drone.
The consumer should
- buy more at once, as the emissions per item are reduced,
- use public transport,
- Avoid return shipments and
- shop at regional online shops.
His outlook:
"After the crisis, the consumer will act much more from the region for the region and online trade will also get involved, e.g. by using environmentally friendly, reusable shipping packaging.
His credo:
"Climate-conscious with a click at a regional online shop."
