The cape is a variation of the scarf and has been developed from the rectangle. It is reversible, and the two differently coloured sides provide a wider range of matches with your other clothes. The sleeves can be lengthened with the extensions. These are also bi-coloured and stylishly round off the cape.
Wash wool and keep it beautiful
Our merino wool is machine washable. And yet, it is worth considering whether a “bath” in the fresh air is not sufficient, because: wool is dirt-repellent and absorbs virtually no odors, so washing cycles can be quite a bit longer.
You should only wash the same materials and similar colors together if possible. It is recommended to turn the knit pieces to the left before washing.
Merino wool should always be washed with warm, maximum 30 °. Only use liquid wool detergents and no fabric softeners! When washing, gently swirl the left-hand knit in the lye – do not rub, knead or wrestle, otherwise the fibers will warp and the knit loses its shape. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water and roll into a towel and squeeze gently.
If you want to wash knitwear then you should always select the gentle wool wash cycle with a maximum temperature of 30 °. Use only liquid wool detergents. When dosing is: less is more. Please also do without softener as it can destroy the fiber permanently.
Fill the washing machine drum only one-third, this avoids too much friction. You can spin freshly washed knits only briefly – at low revolutions.
Drying & ironing
Immediately after washing, it is recommended to gently pull the pieces into shape. Please do not tumble dry it could become children’s clothing. It is best to dry knitting lying flat on a terry towel on the drying rack.
Even when ironing wool does not like pressure. Turn the knit piece on the left side and treat it with steam at medium temperature. The care formula is smoothing instead of flattening.
How should I keep my wool pieces?
Store only freshly cleaned knitwear. Knitting should always be stored lying down. A space-saving and fiber-saving alternative is to stow the knitting models individually rolled.
How do I protect merino wool from dirt and moth infestations?
Prevent by storing your Merino clothing with dried sprigs of rosemary, thyme and lavender. The essential oils keep unpleasant pests away and at the same time ensure a pleasant wash smell. Store Merino wool knitwear dry, cool and in a plastic storage box with airtight lid. Do not store in plastic bags: Residual moisture could cause bacteria and mold to settle.
About Merino Wool
Merino wool has great properties
Merino wool can absorb up to a third of moisture and dries very quickly. When it’s hot, the merino wool cools naturally and warms when it’s cold. Merino wool also has an antibacterial effect and is therefore odor-repellent because it neutralizes foul-smelling salts. It is antistatic and repels dirt so clothes do not need to be washed as often.
Merino Wool is:
isolating and warming
climate or temperature equalizing
fast again wrinkle free
Merino wool extra fine – a luxurious natural fiber
The extra fine merino wool does not scratch and feels comfortable on the skin when worn. It is very fine and therefore lightweight, but is still robust and durable. Since she is almost wrinkle-free, she still looks good after prolonged wear.
The Merino sheep is one of the oldest breeding sheep and is mainly at home in Australia and New Zealand. With its dense, light coat it delivers after the Schur a particularly warming wool. In the year, one sheep yields up to four, and special breeds even up to ten kilograms of its fine wool.
About the collection
“Convertible knit from Austria”. Design by Karin Merkl. Made in Austria. Since 2006.
The preferred topic of austriandesign.at is the scarf. The scarf, in its basic form a rectangle, is interpreted and modified, the traditional changed, the traditional design principles questioned so that it becomes a garment, a multifunctional, variable fashion for women.
It’s a game with the form. A scarf does not always have to be a rectangle. He can also have graduated ends, be worked around, become a stole, a cape, a bolero, ….
But it’s also a game with the function. A scarf does not always have to be just a scarf. It can also be Hooded Scarf, Loop Scarf, ONE Hole Scarf, … but also become the CoatCape, Triangle Poncho, StoleJacket, …. Every austriandesign.at model has a name. They are word creations that already point to something special: Nomen est omen!
The main characteristic of the collection is that the models can and should be combined with each other. Since the same quality of wool is always entangled and the design language is the same, the individual and personal combinations of the different models make a twinset – even better a multi-part knit ensemble.
The DNA of the collection
Many of the models are developed from the rectangle, the basic form of the scarf, which deliberately keeps the blend small. The zero waste philosophy and the production made to order or on demand make a contribution to a sustainable society – conscious countermeasures against overproduction, textile and recycling mountains.
Only natural materials are entangled. Predominantly merino wool (Öko Tex, G.O.T.S.). No cashmere !! Because austriandesign.at does not want to contribute to the desertification of the already barren grazing land or to the animal suffering of the cashmere goats.
The models are portable on both sides, so worked reversibly to allow the most harmonious “coordinated” to the basic wardrobe. And by the two-tone color of the models, they adapt to every occasion and every wardrobe optimally. Thus, a long service life and lifetime of the models is implied.
Not every trend / every fashion is designed. The short-lived trends, the rapid change of style specifications are not the world of austriandesign.at. The short-lived and disposable fashions of fashion are constancy of durability and durability. Pieces without expiration date are created, which become favorite pieces in everyday life.
The collection is growing. Each season, the collection is extended by two to three models, which in turn can be combined well with the previous models. This minimizes the use of raw materials and energy and maximizes the product’s purpose and benefits.
Production is carried out in a family-run factory near Vienna in order to keep the transport routes and emissions deliberately small and to be sure that everything is produced “socially and fairly”. Social and environmental standards are guaranteed.
austriandesign.at always strives to deliver the highest quality – from the material, through the processing to service.
“When fashion stops running, quality is at the forefront and regional creativity is determined, when tradition, ability and design are bundled, then the craft lives. It can satisfy the longing for things with geography and stories. Craft is individuality, far from the crowd and fast pace. “
For austriandesign.at, craft is a counter-movement to globalized, industrial and uniform fashion. An enrichment for everyone. It’s about preserving diversity, tradition and authenticity. It’s about products with authentic stories and traceable sources, about maintaining quality and loyal partnerships, about sustainability at all levels.
austriandesign.at offers clothing with stories, geography and a good conscience. Clothing should again be seen as something useful and valuable, rather than a disposable product. This is how models for a capsule coat rack have been created since 2006, and today, when rethinking and using resources sparingly is more important than ever, the concept of austriandesign.at is as contemporary as any other.
